Fron the Love of Linguistics

My grandfather, Nicolas Berkelmans, was a Linguist, who spoke over a dozen langues. He coincidentally also designed and made Velotype, a machine that allows high-speed speech/dictation, like a stenography device, for court proceedings. With with the advancements of Technology, Velotype could now also be used as a rapid input device, for Live TV and Cable Broadcasts captions-for the hearing impaired.

The PDF below is in Dutch,
yet the pictures, will show the visually progression. :)

Having said that, the Berkelmans DNA genes, must have transferred successfully to me.... lol :o  Because when I was in the 2nd grade, I already knew English and Dutch (from my parents), attended a French school and was learning conversational Spanish, Cuban and German from my childhood friends and peers. :0

So when I was in High School, when my grandfather came to visit, he spurred me on to learn additionally language, like Russian. I remember him grabbing 32 pieces of white paper, writing the Cyrillic alphabet on each one and then tapping them to my wall.

Factually, this simple "visual reference", subliminally allowed me to easily remember and learn the Russian language and beyond.  So yeah..., my grandfathers "Linguistics" or "Codec DNA gene" must have buried deep into the crevasses of my brain...
lol :)
